I have been practicing law for 27 years in a variety of environments. I worked for 20 years in the big firm environment in San Francisco, the last 14 as a partner. I have served as the general counsel of a publicly-traded company, and have extensive in-house experience with several public companies. I have also worked with start-ups and venture capital-backed companies in various techology-based industries.

Academic

Mr. Ortmeyer graduated from the University of California School of Law in 1979, where he was a senior editor on the California Law Review and a member of Order of the Coif.
During 1979-1981, Mr. Ortmeyer was a law clerk to the Hon. Betty B. Fletcher, of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Professional

Mr. Ortmeyer opened the Law Offices of Charles P. Ortmeyer in 2003.

During 2000 through 2002, Mr. Ortmeyer was Senior Vice President and General Counsel of PeoplePC, Inc., a Nasdaq-listed Internet service provider which sold bundled computer/ISP service packages to enterprises and consumers located in the United States, Europe, and Asia. 

Prior to joining PeoplePC, Mr. Ortmeyer was a practicing business lawyer and Director at the San Francisco firm, Howard, Rice, Nemerovski, Canady, Falk and Rabkin, a Professional Corporation. His practice emphasized e-commerce and internet-related companies, retailing and consumer transactions, and representation of financial service businesses, including banks, hedge funds, investment advisers, and broker-dealers.

He joined Howard Rice in 1983.  Prior to joining Howard Rice, Mr. Ortmeyer practiced as a litigator at the San Francisco firm Lasky, Haas, Cohler & Munter. His practice there emphasized intellectual property, antitrust, and unfair trade practices.

Publications

Mr. Ortmeyer is the co-author of Securities Regulation Forms, Clark Boardman Callaghan, a 4-volume treatise on documentation of securities transactions.

Mr. Ortmeyer writes regularly for California State Bar publications.
